The Green Super Store
Hello everyone! Recently I opened a website to sell ‘green’ products; a virtual green super store that offers one stop shopping to buy / sell environmental & eco products and fund raiser for ‘green’ causes.
Motivated by confusion over how to be ‘green’, and competing definitions of ‘green’, my research revealed consumers want more from their shopping experience.
For most consumers today, shopping online for ‘green’ products is very time consuming and frustrating. In a typical shopping cart that could include health & beauty products, baby clothing and pet food, a consumer may have to visit 5 or more sites, per item, before locating the right product and required to check out multiple times; at least once per shopping cart.
Consumers are looking for a more streamlined shopping experience. They want a site that offers many product categories and require one transaction.
They want a say in which products are on offer and they want products made from recycled, organic or natural products.
The preferred method of distribution is drop shipping. Consumers understand the effects transportation and power generation have on the environment and the creation of greenhouse gases. Combined power generation and transportation are responsible for over 1/3 of all greenhouse gases produced. Drop shipped means products are shipped directly from the manufacturer.
The biggest challenge consumers say they face when dealing with most online retailers is a lack of customer service. Most retailers have a web presence as a back door to their brick and mortar store. It’s common for consumers to wait over a week to get a response to inquiries.
While online shopping can be fun and something the entire family can participate in, buy from a site that offers products made from recycled, organic or natural products, offer multiple product categories, distribute by drop shipping, empowers the consumer and offers reasonable customer service.
