California Flag

California is one of the most influential states in USA and compared to other states, the California has highest population. Also it is the largest city in the Los Angeles. California State is well known for its warm weather, palm trees, a sprawling metropolis, sunny coastline, celebrities, wine and much more. California State consists of a flag with a bear on it. In 1911, California flag was officially adopted by the state legislative. Behind the incorporation of the flag, there was sequence of many historical events. The California flag is in rectangular shape and white in color, with a grizzly bear at its center on patch of green grassy land. At its top left corner, it has red star and at the bottom, it has red stripe. Below the bear you can see words in bold letters, California republic.

The Caifornia flag was first raised in Sonoma, California by the American settlers on 14th June 1846, while they were revolting against Mexican rule. The original California flag was also referred as California lone star flag, which consist of single red star. During civil war, the California state consist of confederate flag with one white strip, two red stripe and blue, filled with seventeen stars, which is designed based on the 1st confederate flag, the bars and stars. An American soldier and politician, William Todd, designed the California flag. For designing the California flag, he used an unbleached cotton cloth. Lone star flag introduced star on the California flag. But in 1906, due to earthquake and fires that occurred in San Francisco lead to lose of California flag. Then the state legislature adopted a new flag in 1911, which is the current California flag.

The design of original bear flag is completely different from the modern California flag. The bear on the flag was designed in such a way to symbolize the strength and unyielding resistance of the people. Sometimes, the California flag is also referred as bear flag. Symbolism of the California flag, Grizzly bear stand for strength, Star stand for sovereignty, Red in the bar and star for courage, and White background for purity.
