"What message does it send that you have spent too much
and don't have a rainy day fund to cover yourself and then
you go to the cities and counties where they do have
a rainy day fund set aside for emergencies and now
grab their money?"
-- Gov. Schwarzenegger, Sacramento Bee, July 16, 2008
"Democrats have never entertained massive borrowing
as a solution to this year's budget problem. In particular, Democrats have never
advocated nor believed in taking money from Propositions
1A, 42 and 10."
-Senate President Don Perata, press release July 18, 2008
For over 15 years, our state politicians in Sacramento have been
on an irresponsible and dangerous rampage, taking local
taxpayer money to meet state obligations. Today, facing
a multi-billion dollar budget deficit, they're looking to borrow even more - this time, it's from your city and local community, jeopardizing
the financial health of cities and threatening your
quality of life.
Borrowing millions (or billions) of more dollars is not a solution. It's a political delay tactic that just deepens the state's financial problems; the equivalent of taking out a new credit card to
pay off an old one.
Now is the time to cut up the credit cards once and
for all and force the politicians to do the right thing.
